Run two Linear accounts on Mac
Linear's desktop app keeps you signed into one workspace at a time. A MacDupl instance is a second, fully separate Linear — its own login, its own workspace, its own Dock icon — running at the same time as your first. Switch between clients or accounts with a single click, no logging out.

What you get
- Separate workspaces. Each instance holds its own Linear session and workspace. Run your internal issue tracking and client boards simultaneously.
- Separate notifications. Each instance manages its own notification stream, so issue assignments and updates route to the right workspace identity.
- Its own Dock icon. Colour-tinted per instance, making client Linear and core team Linear distinguishable in the Dock at a glance.
- Nearly free on disk. Instances share APFS disk blocks with the primary app, creating a full second workspace client with negligible disk overhead.
Linear is built on Electron, the runtime MacDupl isolates most thoroughly. Because it has not undergone our complete hardware-verified test suite yet, we list it as “Should work”. The 3-day free trial lets you confirm it on your Mac instantly.
- Linear desktop limits active sessions to one workspace; MacDupl instances maintain separate persistent sessions.
- Status is “Should work” on the Electron runtime — confirmed via local data directory isolation.

Questions about Linear
Why can't I switch accounts inside Linear?
Linear's desktop app only supports one active workspace at a time. A MacDupl instance is a separate app with its own session — you can run your personal Linear and a client or work Linear side by side, each with its own Dock icon, without logging out of either.
Will notifications from both accounts work?
Yes. Each instance is its own native app with its own notification permissions, so issues assigned to either account show up as separate notifications in Notification Center.
Can I run more than two Linear instances?
Yes. Pro allows unlimited instances, so freelancers and agencies managing multiple client workspaces can run one Linear per client. The free trial covers every feature for 3 days.
Will my existing Linear be affected?
No. An instance is a copy with its own data directory. Your original Linear keeps its login and workspace settings exactly as they are, and both run at the same time.
